Mafanta, Tonkolili District – The Yeabu London Charity Foundation will tomorrow, Friday, 12 June 2026, officially hand over a completed solar electrification project to the Mafanta Correctional Centre in Magburaka, marking a significant milestone in efforts to improve welfare, security, and operational efficiency within the correctional facility.

The project, which forms part of the Foundation’s commitment to supporting vulnerable institutions and communities across Sierra Leone, is expected to provide a reliable and sustainable source of electricity for the centre. The intervention is designed to enhance visibility, strengthen security, improve working conditions for correctional officers, and create a more conducive environment for rehabilitation and administrative activities.

For many years, access to reliable electricity has remained a challenge for the facility. The new solar system is expected to transform daily operations, enabling staff and inmates to benefit from improved lighting and a safer environment.

The official handover ceremony will bring together representatives of the Sierra Leone Correctional Service (SLCS), local authorities, development partners, community stakeholders, and invited guests to witness the transfer of the project to the centre’s management.

According to the Yeabu London Charity Foundation, the initiative reflects its broader vision of investing in sustainable solutions that improve lives and strengthen public institutions. Beyond providing electricity, the project symbolizes hope, dignity, and a commitment to supporting rehabilitation and human development within the correctional system.
